What is remedial massage?

Today, there are so many types of massage treatments that you can choose from, such as remedial massage, sports massage, relaxation or ‘Swedish’ massage, Thai massage, and Shiatsu massage, just to name a few. It can become confusing when trying to decide what you really need when booking a massage session.

Here I will explain what remedial massage is and how it can help you.

remdial massage assessment

At Kinect, we offer remedial massage to identify and address your soft tissue dysfunction and then we will create a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.

Remedial massage is the assessment and treatment of soft tissue dysfunction that is supported by a treatment plan and documented treatment notes. Soft tissue includes muscles, fascia, tendons, and ligaments.

Many people think that the only difference between a Swedish massage and a remedial massage is how hard the pressure is, this is not the case. Remedial massage is not just a deep-tissue or hard massage.

ASSESSMENTS in REMEDIAL MASSAGE

Through the assessment process, I will observe your posture and functional movement patterns, and use muscle tests, such as range of motion testing to determine the cause of your issue. The results from the assessments provides the information for a treatment plan that is tailored to you.

During a remedial treatment, I will use a combination of massage techniques and tools to get you the best results.

These techniques can include -

Swedish massage

Deep-tissue massage

Myofascial release

Trigger point therapy

PNF stretching

Joint articulation

Myofascial cupping therapy

Dry needling

Instrument assisted soft tissue mobilisation - IASTM

Percussion therapy - TheraGun G2PRO

Kinesiology taping - RockTape
